Pink Noise’s debut album is a modern form of improvisation, born from the creative synergy between Théophile Blanchon and Gilles Schürch. This dynamic duo merges Théophile’s lyrical trumpet with the expansive soundscapes of Eurorack synthesis, while Gilles brings his rhythmic versatility and innovative use of effects on acoustic drums. Together, they craft improvised compositions that blur genre boundaries—seemingly structured and thoughtful, yet created entirely in the moment. The album takes the listener on a sonic journey where each improvisation tells its own story, filled with conceptual ideas, emotions, unpredictability, and musical dialogue
Aesthetic & Sound Design
- Organic vs. Synthetic
Théophile’s trumpet, with its rich, vocal-like quality, serves as a human and emotional anchor in the music. In contrast, the analog Eurorack synthesizer introduces a colder, almost unpredictable synthetic element, with modulating sequences and electrified, twisting textures that challenge the trumpet’s natural warmth. - Percussion in Space
Through the use of effects, Gilles manipulates the perception of time and space with his drums. From the steady pulse of the bass drum to the seemingly infinite resonance of a cymbal in reverb, he plays with spatiality, creating textures, and sometimes even melodies—intricate layers of sound upon which the trumpet resonates freely.
